Why I Love Grand Rapids, in Six Words

You may have already heard about the MyGR6 campaign that was announced by Amway as a way to inspire Grand Rapidians to share their pride and to be entered to win prizes. I’m all about promoting all that is West Michigan, so I was honored to be asked to post about MyGR6.

I wasn’t always a Grand Rapidian. I grew up in Martin and went to school in Kalamazoo. It wasn’t until after graduating from Grand Valley State University and started full time employment in Grand Rapids that it began to feel like home. I now live in Jenison, and although I don’t reside in the city proper, I definitely consider myself a Grand Rapidian.

I LOVE this city. Sure, we have our issues, but where else can you be so close to country and city life? And the local food movement here makes my online foodie friends super jealous.

It was really hard to narrow down my thoughts to six words. But I did it. Here it is:

Great Food. Great Friends. Great Beer.

If you’re feeling inspired to try your hand at creating six words about Grand Rapids,  head over and submit a six word memoir on www.mygr6.comThere will be six grand prize winners, who will have their six on a billboard and also receive the Ultimate Grand Rapids Prize Package featuring  local hotel, restaurant and  entertainment certificates and other great prizes valued at over $10,000. How cool is that?

Be sure to tweet or Facebook your entry, so you can share your love of Grand Rapids.

Also, if you’re headed downtown for ArtPrize (yet another cool thing about Grand Rapids), be sure to check out the interactive exhibit at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

Disclosure: I am proud to have been chosen as one of the bloggers to write a sponsored post about MyGR6.  All opinions are my own

Oh my goodness, I almost forgot to let you know about the Twitter party!

If you are on Twitter, join us for a Twitter party on Tuesday September 20 from 8-9 PM. Read more about it at The Big Binder.
