Odd Side Ales: A Low-Key Hangout

A few weeks ago DH (Dear Husband) and I went to check out Odd Side Ales in Grand Haven. He had been there before, but it was my first time. I wasn’t sure what to expect, other than unique beers.

Unique they were! I tried the Irish Mint Stout, and was pleasantly surprised. Sometimes when breweries make unique beers they hide flaws behind lots of “interesting” flavors. Not so with this one. The mint was very understated and the base stout was solid.

DH, of course, always goes for the bourbon aged beers. His was good too. When we checked in on FourSquare, a tip was to mix the beers for unique combinations. So we tried the Irish Mint Stout with Peanut Butter Cup Stout. It was  . . . different. Not as overpowering as you’d expect.

The brewery is located in the piano factory in Grand Haven. Sort of like a strip mall only not as garish. The pub itself has nice tables which I understand the owner made himself. The atmosphere was very quiet, and there was an eclectic mix of customers.

I highly recommend checking it out!
