12 West Michigan Farmers Markets For Fall Bounty

West Michigan Farmers Market Fall

Farmers’ markets are one of the oldest forms of direct marketing by small farmers. From the traditional “mercados” in the Peruvian Andes to the unique street markets in Asia, growers all over the world gather weekly to sell their produce directly to the public.  Surprising to most, Michigan is the second most agriculturally diverse state in our country. Shopping at a farmers’ market is a great way to meet local farmers and get fresh, flavorful produce.  Lake Michigan’s massive waters moderate the climate creating unique growing conditions typically not found in colder regions.  For this reason, more than 300 agricultural commodities flourish, making Michigan an excellent place to explore local agriculture.

Fall weather is here and with that cooler weather and many local West Michigan Farmers Markets have closed their booths for the season.  There are still some great opportunities to enjoy Bountiful Michigan by shopping at local markets in the surrounding area.  Eat Local West Michigan has compiled 12 Farmers Markets that will continue to offer great Michigan produce and fruits thru the fall season.  The markets serve to strengthen the local communities ties and will help to provide weekly events at no cost while enhancing our community’s quality of life. Each week the farmers in the marketplace display a colorful bounty of agricultural products grown right in our backyard.  Whether you’re looking for fruits and veggies, baked goods, meats, or artisan cheeses, the farmers market is the one-stop shop for many a Michigander.

  1. The Caledonia Farmers Market runs on Saturdays from 9-1pm through October 29. Not only are there veggies, but we also have craft items, spa products, jewelry, and clothing. Check out our FB page.

  2. South Haven Farmers Market runs through October 15. Holland and Kalamazoo switch to winter markets after the close of their normal season. Pretty sure Muskegon does, too. Sweetwater Local Foods Market (Norton Shores) is open year-round. Hope this helps. Thanks for the list!
